The SARAH (Strengthening and Stretching for Rheumatoid Arthritis of the Hand) programme

Hello,

My name is Cynthia Srikesavan and I am a Post-Doctoral Physiotherapy researcher at the University of Oxford. This email is about Free online training for hand therapists on an evidence-based hand exercise programme.

The SARAH (Strengthening and Stretching for Rheumatoid Arthritis of the Hand) programme is a tailored and progressive 12-week exercise programme designed to improve muscle strength, range of movement and hand function in people with RA affecting their hands and wrist. We evaluated the SARAH programme in a large clinical trial which was shown to be clinically and cost-effective https://tinyurl.com/y4aaqxqd. The SARAH programme is now recommended in the UK NICE guidelines for the management of hand function problems due to rheumatoid arthritis in adults.

Following this, we have developed an online training https://isarah.octru.ox.ac.uk/ for therapists to learn how to deliver the SARAH programme. The training is now freely available for therapists across the world. It has four brief modules and takes 3-4 hours to complete. The modules could be completed at the user’s convenience and a training certificate can be downloaded upon completion.

We request your kind office to pass this information to your members who might be interested in the training. I have also attached a flyer for circulation. Thank you and please let us know if you need any further details.

Best wishes,

Cynthia Swarnalatha Srikesavan
